		Windsurf: Mistral Class
AFTER THE FIRST RACE IN MONDELLO HONG KONG TAKES THE LEAD
MARCO CASAGRANDE IS THE FIRST OF THE ITALIANS

The first race of the 2006 European Championships Mistral Class took
		place today in Mondello.
Unlike last year when the World Championships were held there was a lot
wind blowing, today’s race had to bare only a slight breeze that didn’t
go over 4 to 5 knots, therefore making the judges come to the decision
on having only one race today.
The hero’s of the day were the athletes from Hong Kong, Yin Chan and Ho
Chi Ho, who finished the race in first and second place. Behind them was
Yu Wing also from Hong Kong who came before Joon Sik from Korea and
another athlete from Hong Kong, Ma Knok Po.
The Italian Marco Casagrande came in at sixth place, running for the
European Champion Title, he came before the Greeks under 17s, Sophocles
Soluotzidakis and Alexander Giakas, who would really like to impress
Greece as Fragos and Chrysochoy did two years ago at the World
race-board Championships. The other Italians in the race Paco Wirz and
Giuseppe Castelli came in 13th and 16th making them first amongst the
Masters category. Behind them came in Alberto Gange at 18th place and
Andrea Beverino who came through the winning line at 23rd place.
Between the women it was another athlete from Hong Kong who won her
category today (17th place in the general results) hounded by the young
Greek girl Anastasia Davrou, and the Israeli girl Sivan Davidovich, from
Tel Aviv. The first Italian girl to come through was Valentina Failla
who belongs to the Albaria Windsurfing Club and who is fifth place in
the female ranking, Valentina who came in behind Maria Papadali, is just
one step away from the virtual European Championship podium.
Tomorrow weather permitting, will allow the second day of races to go
ahead starting at around 12 noon.
