EIGHT EVENTS FOR A GREAT HAPPENING

In Mondello, from May 31st to June 6th 1999, will be held the XIV edition of the Windsurf World Festival, organised by Albaria Association; during this happaning are expected six different sailing
events, one of Beach Volley and a musical one. A traffic island will be placed so that a number of attractions can create a sort of Village.
This event can be considered unique in its kind because it concentrates in a week several happenings which attract thousands of people (more than 300.000 last year).
More than 350 athletes coming from the five continents will take part to this event. To be pointed out the Windsurf Races Nations Cup (June 2nd-6th) and Sicily Grand Prix (June 5th and 6th) appointed as Olympic selection by International Federation of Sail.
Some of the names of the athletes which will take part to the races: the New Zelander world champion Aaron Macintosh, from Israel the world champion Amit Imbar, the Olympic Alessandra Sensini (bronze Atlanta 1996) and Riccardo Giordano, both of them from Albaria Club.
The other five scheduled sail competitions are: A Class Italian Championship - monotype Catamaran (May 31st-June 4th; valid as selection for European Championship); Italia Cup Laser Olympic Class (June 3rd-6th; more than 150 athletes will run for the first place); National Race Hobie Cat 16 and 18.
The peculiar Yacht Sailing is scheduled on Sunday June 6th where 20 boats will sail from Palermo port to ashore the Gulf of Mondello in
real-time, ending up the whole happening. The program includes other
sport events such as the Beach Volley with an International competition,
the “King of the Beach”, which recalls on the beach a large number of
people thanks to the great performances of the athletes.
Also scheduled the fifth edition of the “Night Race” followed by
fire-works and musical shows; during last edition, about 80.000 people
have been registered as public.
Among these important events, performances and concerts of national and international artists are expected, which will show off in the huge
stage that will set up on the beach.
From this year also the multinational company CP (Colgate-Palmolive)
will support the Organisation and the Sponsors which renew their efforts
assisting for the achievement of the event.
