HIT A MORE THAN 200 METRES AWAY IN THE SEA AT SUNRISE
THE FIRST EVER DRIVING CONTEST IN ITALY IS PLAYED AT MONDELLO
Golf, something new in the 2006 edition of the World Festival on the
Beach, saw its first day of events yesterday. For the first time in
Italy the spectacular issue of a Driving Contest took place in the sea,
the winner is the one who can manage to hit the ball the furthest. On a
special platform set up on the beach, the Villa Airold’s Golf players
took turns in hitting the ball to see who hits the furthest. A special
floating ball was used for the occasion and was hit by the players,
curious spectators stood close by and watched.
Each player had four turns to hit. The winner of the game was Giuseppe
Lampo who hit one ball 217mtrs away while in second place Marco Lo
Curcio came in with a distance of 213mtrs, third was Enrico Scaduto with
201mtrs.
Earlier at the Villa Airoldi Golf Club four professional golf players
played a round of skin game, where the winner is the player who has the
highest amount of money at the end of the race. The skin game was part
of the golf/sails combination, another novelty to the World Festival on
the Beach 2006. After 9 holes the winner was Antonio Jurilli, second,
Nicola Maestroni, in third place Paolo Terrini from Genova, in fourth
place was Luca Marra who is the owner of the Villa Airoldi Golf Club.
Today the four players will go aboard four boats in the sailing race The
Palermo-Mondello Sprint, which will be the final race in the first golf/sails
combination held in Sicily.
